CONSTRUCT MODULAR SMALL ARMS RANGE AT 173 FIGHTER WING

Klamath Falls Oregon

The Kingsley Field Air National Guard Base (KFANG) required a new gun range and training facility. In 2021, KFANG awarded Ahtna a construction contract to construct a Modular 14 Lane Small Arms Range and CATM facility at its Kingsley Field, Klamath Falls, OR base.

The project consists of a 14-lane modular shooting range made of 21 8-foot by 40-foot container modular units manufactured by Shooting Range Industries of Las Vegas, NV. They are assembled on concrete foundations, and an 1,824 sf Pre-engineered Metal Building Classroom CATM Building. The two structures are connected by an 896 square foot pre-engineered metal walkway canopy.

The CATM building and canopy included foundation and slab on grade, the steel structure, cold formed exterior walls and roof framing, rigid exterior wall and roof installation, gypsum sheathing and vapor barrier; metal siding and standing seam roofing; exterior doors and windows; interior steel stud framing; building plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and communications systems; wall and floor finishes; suspended acoustical ceiling; and interior doors, hardware, casework, trim, and fixtures.

Project utilities included running several thousand feet of natural gas main, 1,200amp/480v/3-phase primary electrical, and 10-inch water service utilities. Site work included demolition of existing training buildings, extensive grading and erosion control, structural fill operations, storm water, sanitary sewer, and finish grading and landscaping.

Project commissioning included the commissioning of all gun range systems, including the mechanical ventilation system, computer control/programming of the targeting system, and bullet traps. Commissioning of the CATM building included all mechanical and electrical equipment, building management system (connected to the base-wide environmental and security system), and the fire alarm system.
