WRC Operations & Maintenance

WRC Operations & Maintenance

Seattle, Washington

Ahtna is currently managing a comprehensive O&M contract for NOAA’s Western Regional Center (WRC), which includes nine buildings (Building 1, Administration; Building 2, Employee Services; Building 3, Research; Building 4, Research II; Building 5, Child Care Center; Building 8, Miscellaneous Shops; Building 9, Auditorium; Building 32, Hangar 32; and Building 33, Hangar 33) encompassing more than 600,000 SF of various types of occupied spaces and also includes a compressed gas storage.

O&M services include monthly full preventive facilities maintenance for inspection, operations and preventive maintenance, all necessary repairs and renewal parts, and call back service for all building equipment and control components and related systems. The WRC has a number of critical agency operations that must be maintained within the various
buildings. The availability of electrical and HVAC systems to support these critical missions is imperative. The National Weather Service (NWS) maintains a 24/7 operation in Building 1 and is responsible for providing weather advisories throughout Western Washington. A loss of electrical power or HVAC to this area would present an unacceptable interruption in operations. Computer data centers in Buildings 1, 3, and 4 are also critical and it is imperative that the HVAC systems continue operating without disruptions. Buildings 1, 3, 4, 8, and 9 have backup emergency power generator capability for life safety and critical equipment. Building 9 emergency power is supplied from the emergency generator located in Building 1. Building 9 is completely operational in times of emergencies.
