Groundwater Treatment Systems, Landfills O&M
Fort Ord, California
In 2019, Ahtna was awarded a fifth consecutive contract to continue performing operations and maintenance (O&M) of the groundwater treatment systems (GWTS), soil vapor extraction and treatment system (SVETS), and Landfills along with the groundwater monitoring program (GWMP), soil gas monitoring program (SGMP), and landfill gas (LFG) monitoring program at the former Fort Ord (FFO), a U.S. Army Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) facility. Ahtna has provided remediation and engineering support for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) at FFO for various phases of the CERCLA process since 2002. Through these contracts, Ahtna has maintained cooperative relationships with USEPA Region IX, the California Central Coast Regional Water Quality Board, California Department of Toxic Substances Control, and local stakeholders to facilitate efficient execution of all work. Ahtna operated and maintained the GWTS at Operable Unit 2 (OU2), Operable Unit Carbon Tetrachloride Plume (OUCTP), and Sites 2 and 12 (2/12), the SVETS at Sites 2/12, and the Landfills engineered cover system and LFG extraction and treatment system to ensure compliance with CERCLA decision documents. Under Ahtna, the GWTS and SVETS were online at least 95% of the time, with the GWTS operating at approximately 1,200 gallons per minute and the SVETS operating at 850 standard cubic feet per minute.
